THE ORTHODOX CONCEPT REGARDING THE NATURE OF CHRIST
The Lord Jesus Christ is God Himself, the Incarnate Logos. Who took to Himself a perfect manhood. His Divine nature is one with his human nature yet without mingling, confusion or alteration; a complete Hypostatic Union. Words are inadequate to describe this union. It was said, that without controversy, "Great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, (1 Tim. 3:16). As this union is permanent, never divided nor separated, we say in the liturgy that His Godhead never departed from His manhood for a single moment nor even for a twinkle of an eye. The Divine nature (God the Word) was united with the human nature which He took of the Virgin Mary by the action of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit purified and sanctified the Virgin's womb so that the Child to whom she gave birth would inherit nothing of the original sin; the flesh formed of her blood was united with the Only-Begotten Son. This unity took place from the first moment of the Holy Pregnancy in the Virgin's womb. As a result of the unity of both natures-the Divine and the human-inside the Virgin's womb, one nature was formed out of both: "The One Nature of God the Incarnate Logos" as St. Cyril called it.
AGREED STATEMENT ON CHRISTOLOGY
"We believe that our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ, the Incarnate - Logos is perfect in His Divinity and perfect in His Humanity. He made His humanity One with His Divinity without Mixture, nor Mingling, nor Confusion. His Divinity was not separated from His Humanity even for a moment or twinkling of an eye.
At the same time, we anathematize the Doctrines of both Nestorius and Eutyches"
The Prayer Book Of The Seven Canonical Hours For The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. Published by C.O.P.T. Coptic Orthodox Publication and Translation
The word Agpia pronounced (Agp-eya) is de- rived from the Coptic word “Agp” which means hour. Hence the title “Agp-eya” denotes the Prayer of the Hours.
We pray that this may be of benefit to your spiritual life.
A Brief Introduction To The Coptic Orthodox Church By Bishop Angaelos, General Bishop of The Coptic Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom
We are told in the Book of Isaiah that there would be an altar to the Lord in the midst of Egypt, and this altar came with the birth of the Coptic Church at the hands of the great evangelist Saint Mark, in the first century, and as we enter the 21st tCentury, we re-release this book.
The first release in September 1997 was on the occasion of the inauguration of the Saint Athanasius Coptic Theological College in Stevenage, England. The book you now hold is an updated version, though in essence much of the text has remained unchanged.
We could not have imagined the interest shown in this book at the time of its initial collation, but have found that it has been sought by Copts and non-Copts, young and old because of its easy-to-read and easy-to-follow presentation.
I do hope that this work will continue to be of assistance to all who read it, and that more than intellectual knowledge, it provides a springboard for experiencing God through a very ancient, steadfast and faithful vessel which is the Coptic Orthodox Church.
I thank all those who have worked with me in preparing, editing and publishing both issues of this book, but first and foremost, I thank my beloved father His Holiness Pope Shenouda I11 for the inspiration which he has been, and continues to be, for the whole Church all over the world.

This noisy, clamorous period in which mankind lives on the earth cannot be compared in any way with the peace which has existed since eternity and which will last forever . It is but a troubled drop in the ocean of that endless peace. Maybe the angels are looking at our world in astonishment and perhaps they are saying: What is all uproar on this planet?! And why do the people live in such a tumult?! When will they calm down? It is certain that they will not calm down unless they reach us, because calmness is the way of life in heaven.
HH Pope Shenouda III
Many write for adults and few are those who write for children. Also, many occupy themselves talking with adults, but rare are those who love to talk to children.
So, sometimes children feel they are not the core of attention and respect of adults, and accordingly they try to draw their attention by many ways, perhaps by outcry or stubbornness or (naughtiness).
In this book, we need to talk about the child, his mentality and how to relate to him and gain his love, and to serve him spiritually, socially and culturally.
Because the child is the first cell of the society and the church, if we gain him, we win an entire generation, and if we lose him we lose the future of the generation we live in, and consequent loss of the other generations.
I personally love children and love to joke, play, talk and make friends with them. In childhood I find innocence, truth and openness, as well as the quick response which we lack in adults.
This book is not the outcome of a study of books of psychology and education, but the result of personal experiences with the children in Sunday School or at the numerous meetings at the Church, and with families, kindergartens, clubs, etc...
I offer this book as a present to those responsible for education at church and also at home and those concerned with children. I gave many lectures on this subject; the most recent was at St. George’s Church, Sporting, Alexandria in August 1992, at the “Week of the Child” prepared by Rev. Fr Tadros Yacoub Malaty, may God bless his sincere efforts to serve the stage of childhood.

The question of whether monasticism is an invitation or a duty is a question that is frequently asked by the spiritual youth and zealous servants, who want to please their Creator but do not know how to choose their way. They want to hear God's voice in their life, chanting with the Psalmist -"Cause me to hear Your loving kindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You. Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; In You I take shelter. Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness." (Psalm 143:8-10), and with Moses the Prophet: "Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people." (Exodus 33:13), for the salvation of their souls: is it through monasticism for a life of prayer and worship, or priesthood for pastoral care in the world, or celibacy, concentrating one's life for service in the world, or getting married and having a blessed Christian family, and an exemplary house as that of Priscilla and Aquila. Here, we will try to highlight the monastic invitation, which may answer some of the questions the youth have asked and relieve those who are confused.
BY HIS HOLINESS POPE SHENOUDA III, We are indebted to St. Mark, this great preacher, who came to our country to teach in the name of Christ. The Word of God reached us after his blood was shed on our land. The first to write the Gospel registering the life of Lord Christ and His Works, so humanity can be saved. The book is an expression of our gratitude towards the great St Mark and to acquaint his sons and daughters all over the world, with his pure life, that suffered and struggled so the faith can reach us.

The Holy Psalmody
Confession in the Coptic Orthodox Church is the pronounced part of the repentance. The confessor repents first in private before God, then exposes his sins before an anointed priest. Before confessing, the confessor goes through the following steps: 1. Self-examination, during which the person identifies his failures and successes. 2. Self-blaming for distorting the image of man whom God has created upon His likeness. 3. Confessing and repenting before God, asking His forgiveness and grace to support him further in his spiritual strife. 4. Heading towards the church while recalling: “I have sinned against heaven and before you”. Finally exposing his/her sins and iniquities before the priest, asking for guidance. May the Lord Compensate the beloved father Elijah Shoukri for preparing the booklet to guide the confessor and aid him in offering a true repentance and a truthful confession, for many are those who confess without repenting and those who do not know how to confess. The Lord blesses each and every work for the glory of His Name.

It gives me great joy to dedicate this first publication to:
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III
Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark
Commemorating his fortieth anniversary as Bishop of Christian Education
30 September 2002
His Holiness Pope Shenouda I11 has been and still is instrumental in teaching his people all aspects of Christian faith. His knowledge of the Scriptures, the rich heritage of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, its history and doctrine is an inspiration to all those millions of people that have come to know him.
Through his weekly sermons at St. Mark Cathedral in Cairo, his many books (over 100 in fact), his thousands of articles in newspapers and magazines and his lectures at the Theological College we come to have a real sense of this great teacher and preacher of our time. All of this has earned him the title of "Best preacher in the world" in 1978 as well as many honorary PhD's from renowned universities all around the world.
Knowing that I am unworthy, yet I have personally tasted what it means to be his disciple at the Papal residence at St. Bishoy monastery in Wadi El-Natroun (4th century Scetis) and to learn from his fountain of knowledge, spirituality and humility.
We ask the Lord God Almighty to preserve the life of our honoured pontiff, His Holiness Pope Shenouda I11 for many more blessed and peaceful years to come and that he may continue to educate his people and lead them to salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord

Fr. Tadros Y. Malaty
We the Copts, are very honoured that the Holy Family visited our land. Our spiritual love towards the Saviour Jesus Christ and His mother is deep-rooted in our hearts, and appears in our daily life. We love St. Mary, the Virgin and mother of God, through whom we discover the nature of her Son as the Incarnate Son of God. Her life speaks of God's redeeming deed, and explains man’s role in attaining the heavenly life by the divine grace. |

Dotorinal Theology According To The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria Deacon Timon - Deacon Amir HANNA |
Orthodoxy is never satisfied by limiting the Church to means of speaking to the intellect of the parishioners. While we are teaching the Scriptures, we find it essential for the faithful to attend the Liturgy, and experience the actual dwelling of the Holy Spirit on the Sacrament as well as the parishioners. Many non Orthodox Christians attaind their conversion to Orthodoxy during the Liturgy
A Coptic Orthodox parishioner is expected to leave the Liturgy with a renewed spirit which preserves his salvation and make him a moving gospel and a living apostle for Christ.
Every Liturgy in the church is an actual and renewed encounter with the Holy Spirit.
We have also included in the course the biblical necessity for the Sacraments and the communion with the saints.
Because the Church is the icon of heaven, eternity does not have to wait until we leave this world. We, through being at church, start our eternity there and then.
It is very pleasing to report and celebrate that this edition is issued during the Silver Jubilee of the enthronement of our beloved father Abba Shenouda III the 117th successor of Saint Mark, who ascended this blessed and apostolic throne on 14 November, 1971.
The Apostolic succession granted to His Holiness by the Holy Spirit, is definitely synonymous, through the Grace of God, with a great and shining Apostolic success.
I am indebted to His Holiness for the great majority of the material presented in these notes. We are all inspired by His Holiness’s Orthodox and asetic life and his orthodox teachings.
May the Lord grant us peace and blessings through the prayers of our beloved Mother Saint Mary the Virgin and all the angels and saints who pleased Him since the beginning.May the Lord protect and preserve the life and well being of our beloved Pope Shenouda III and his brother in the Apostolic Ministry Mar Aghnatious Zakka the Patriarch of Antioch, and their partners in the Apostolic Ministry the Metropolitans and the Bishops.

THE VOICE OF MY LOVER WOOS ME!
Father tadros Y. Malaty
The Divinity of Christ is one of the most important and vital subjects in the Christian doctrine. Many heresies rose against it in various eras, and the Church confronted them and replied to them. The most dangerous was the Arian Heresy which reached its peak in the fourth century and led to many Ecumenical Councils being held. The first Ecumenical Council in history was held in 325 A.D., attended by 318 bishops from all the churches of the world. Arius and his heresy were refuted, and the Christian Creed was formulated.
Nevertheless, the residues of Arianism have continued to spread even till this day. Many atheist philosophers and scientists rose against the Divinity of Christ. The heresy of Jehovah's Witnesses rose against the Divinity of Christ. It was allegedly founded, in Pennsylvania, America, in 1872. Then in 1909 its headquarters moved to New York where a community was established under the name of "Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society". They published many books, the most important of which were: Let God Be True, The Truth Shall Set You Free, The Harp of God, The Rich Man, Deliverance, Creation, The New Heaven and the New Earth, Government and Peace, Protection, Reconciliation, and various other publications called Tracts.
In the following pages, we will try to discuss the subject of the Divinity of Christ in a positive light, and prove this fundamental doctrine from the Holy Bible. We will discuss all the objections and reply to them in due course.

"God is love" (1 John 4:8). God is neither an idea that we believe in, nor a Supreme Being who is far away in the heavens and isolated from our world. God is but the Lover of mankind who grants His divine knowledge so that we may enjoy His love and feel His fatherhood.

The Spiritual Man - THE IMAGE OF GOD
Perhaps this question is addressed to every person: Who are you? What is man?
Some would answer:
Man is a body, soul and spirit.
Another would answer :
Man is a living, sensible, talking, free, wishful creature.
Others say - with a sense of humility - that Man is dust and ashes, as our father Abraham said about himself (Gen 18:27).
All this is said about any man, then what is the accurate answer? We say it is the definition of the Spiritual Man according to the Holy Bible:
HE IS THE IMAGE OF GOD
This is what God said in the History of Creation: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him.” (Gen 1:26,27).

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Rom 8:14).
He leads them through certain means which if they follow, they will take part in the work of the Holy Spirit and be in the communion of the Holy Spirit (2Cor 13:14).
We call these means ‘The Spiritual Means’ or the means of grace, that is, the means through which the grace of God works or with which it works...
In this book, I shall speak to you about eleven of these spiritual means. They are:
Prayer, The Holy Bible, Reading the lives of the saints, Contemplation, Spiritual Practices, Giving account of oneself, Confession, Holy Commun- ion, Fasting, Alms Giving and Service...
These means are essential for every person.
No matter how high the spiritual level of a person may be, he could never survive without these means. They are his continual spiritual food. If he kept away from them or neglected practising them, the heat of his spirit will become lukewarm and he will expose himself to many dangerous com- bats...
The material of this book is the fruit of lectures that were given in the sixties, either in Cairo, Alexandria or Damanhour. Parts of these lectures were published in “El-Keraza” magazine and “Watany” newspaper. We have col- lected all these lectures in order to publish this book ...
There is no doubt that a separate book could be written on each chap- ter, but we wanted to present all these topics to you in a concentrated way.
Try to apply and practise these discussed topics in your life. May God be with you, guiding your steps towards Him.

LET ME GROW
A REALISTIC VIEW INTO THE WORLD OF YOUTH
Fr. Tadros Y. Malaty
This is the first book I publish about The Resurrection.
But I have published many articles about the resurrection in the Preaching magazine and in the daily newspapers.
Moreover, every year, on Easter Eve, we used to deliver a sermon about that subject in the Great Cathedral.
It was necessary to collect all these articles and sermons for this book, So we could publish it.
This book is comprised of two principal elements:
1. General - theoretical theology -talks on the resurrection.
This is an ideological trend which falls under the limits of theoretical theology or the philosophy of the resurrection written in a good style which suits all denominations.
It, also, explains how resurrection was an essential necessity; how it was potential and the uses and benefits gained from it both spiritually and generally.
2. Topics concerning the resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ; glory be to Him.
It comprises the events of the resurrection and explains its power and its effects; how Jesus' resurrection surpasses other resurrections; the blessedness of this resurrection and its effects on your life; the joys caused by it and the proofs and confirmation of its authenticity.
3. Questions related to the resurrection.
A question about the glorified body; a question about the words of the Lord to Mary Magdalene "Do not hold on to me. "; two other questions about Saint Peter, the apostle and a question about the circumstances of the resurrection and to what extent its events agree with each other.
This last question needs a separate and complete article which will be delivered on another occasion; God willing.
Now, it suffices to wish you a happy Easter and good returns.

It is a collection of articles entitled, "The Release of the Spirit" written for the Sunday School Magazine from the year 1951 . I was then the editor of that magazine before starting my monastic life. These articles were published in the form of a book in the year 1957 including some of my poems which were published in the magazine as well.. It was my first published book and it gained the approval of many and was reprinted many times. The fourth edition included some meditations and poems which I wrote while still a monk before my ordination as a bishop. It included also an introduction which is in fact another article on the release of the spirit. To the fifth edition, another introduction was added on the same topic. We hope-God willing-that we may add other articles to the coming editions on the same topic..

VANITY OF LIFE NOT CENTERED ON GOD
If we accept "Qoheleth" (the preacher) as Solomon, we will behold him in this book after a temporary apostasy from the Lord, confessing and forsaking evil, and finding mercy. We behold him returning from the broken and empty cisterns of the world, to the Fountain of living water, recording for admonition of future ages his own folly and shame, the bitterness of his disappointment, and the salutary lessons he had learned from seeking happiness in the vanities of the world without God
